Maun/November 2008/Chill Out: There's not a lot of bars in the world where you can lay down in bedlike sofas and sip your Windhoek Lager while watching hippos jump around in the river below your feet - but The Old Bridge is one of those rare places. Apart from a lively bar, it also features a good backpacker camping.(signposted on the road between Maun and Francistown) (Posted by RosieS) |

Mombasa/November 2008/Adrenaline: A good sunset spot is the beach bar at Diani Beach with the unlikely name Ali Barbours 40 Thieves. |

Johannesburg/November 2008/Adrenaline: A good time to catch South African bands like Hardcore Misled, punk-ska Sibling Rivalry or rapper Roachy is at the Uprising Festival taking place every July in Joburg or at The Bohemians rock club, a good spot for some stage back flips(5 Park Road, Richmond) |

Zanzibar/November 2008/Adrenaline: Africa House (enter by stairs from Shangani Street) used to be informal, now it's still laid back but a bit more fancy. Go for a drink and a nargileh water pipe and enjoy the sunset. Definitely more backpacker style is the Rasta hangout the Nungwi Beach Bar, and you can lay down in the sand and have someone pour beer in your mouth. A sleazy club with terrible music and a lot of prostitutes is the Garage Club - still fun if you bring a bunch of people to back you up. For good music, check ads for whatever Reggae act is on at dancehalls around town. |

Kampala/November 2008/Adrenaline: Feel an urgent need to headbang to The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Fear Factory and the Sex Pistols, on a hot and humid African evening. Take a taxi to Nickey's Bar/Cheese Bar in Bbunga and get in to the mosh pit. |

Livingstone/November 2008/Chill-Out: The Jungle Junction is the kind of place you would expect to find on Kho Pahn Gang or Bali. A place where travelers wind down after a long time on the overland route. A rare place in southern Africa, this island is good for chilling-out with fellow travelers for a few days or a few weeks, lazing in hammocks by the river, reading, smoking, writing or sipping beer.
