Tel Aviv/November 2008/Adrenaline: A good starting point to look for your favourite DJ or check out anything from rock to Bhukarian (traditional Israeli music) is Levontin 7. Check out rappers System Ali with arab/Israeli (!) members, singing in Russian to a punk/Klezmer mix. Not what you get at home everyday – right? (address same as name of club) Tel Aviv/November 2008/Adrenaline: a bigger concert venue is Barbi, where you find mostly Israeli rock acts that’s gone from being strictly underground (i.e. having a bigger audience). (52 Kibbuts Galoyot street) Tel Aviv/November 2008/Adrenaline: if you are into more street-core and underground acts, head for The Patiphone Club in the southern parts of tel Aviv. They throw good parties, like the summer Maximum Pain festival, with local hardcore bands like Trencher and Barbara (Yitzak Sade st. 329) Tel Aviv/November 2008/Adrenaline: Another good bar and concert venue is the Koltura, aiming at mostly a punk and hardcore audience. Amman/November 2008/Adrenaline: I found a good place to meet local students, punkrockers, deathmetal heads etc. to be a place with the incredibly stiff name Books@café. In spite of the name it's a cool designed place with excellent food, alcohol, small cubicles and sofas and the occasional DJ spinning records. (Mango Street). (Posted by Stefan, Stockholm) |

Damascus/November 2008/Adrenaline: OK, so I understand you're not in the winding Baazar-streets of Damascus expecting to have a binge-drinking party with your frat brothers. But, still - if you're missing a few cold brews after indulging in the sweet flavored tobacco smoking at the lovely Nargileh-waterpipe places An-Nafera and Ash-Shams (down the stairs from the Umayyad Mosque) there's not a lot of places to chose from. On weekends 'Marmar' - in the Christian quarters of the old city - is, well, not rocking but at least lively and they do have ok beer. Another unexpected place is the grocery store(!) on Sharia Bab Shargi who has beer secretly tucked away in the fridge. The owner may offer you a flour sack to sit on, some sliced cucumber and spring onions and cold beer to buy (or even Arrak). (Marmar, Sharia ad-Dawanneh). (Posted by Stefan, Stockholm) |
